Livingston Architects - Philosophy
PHILOSOPHY
We believe that a home is a bridge to the natural world. Yet in building that bridge, a significant amount of time, resources, and personal, enduring decisions will come into play.
Listening, comprehending, brainstorming and being transparently honest—when we get to know each other, the strength of the results will reflect teamwork and trust, and what might have been simply a process becomes an enjoyable exercise in creativity. Everyone is integral to our process, from our principal Candace Miller as lead designer, to you, the client, leading the way with your vision. We believe every room should feel like it was conceived for you and your family—not simply for art’s sake. If historic preservation plays a role in your home’s design, we can help ensure that it becomes an integral part of your living space.
Environment, space, history, art, textures, materials, engineering, construction, quality; they all play a role in architecture as we define it. After all, your home will be more than your house—so it follows that your architect needs to be more than a designer. At Miller Architects, we welcome that role, and have found that a fulfilling process always results in an exceptional home.
ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDING
Miller Architects uses high-performance materials within energy-efficient systems to create homes that are designed for comfort and healthy living, even in extreme climates. Observing and understanding each site’s environmental characteristics triggers a dialogue on how to approach the design. Factors that play a role in a building’s optimal performance include seasonal sun movement and wind patterns. These factors are put in context with other variables such as programmatic requirements, view corridors, and orientation. Early discussion in the programming phase includes available types of heating/cooling and ventilation systems, to ensure an appropriate level of performance and comfort. Our past projects encompass everything from completely off-the-grid homes to grid-intertied systems—but regardless of the specifics, it’s our philosophy that function must deliver efficiency and comfort, while never forgetting that function can also be elegant, through insightful design.
Miller Architects is a Montana based Livingston architecture firm licensed in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, New Mexico and Colorado.
